About project

The terms "innovation" and "breakthrough" are the keywords for this year. While the majority of my early-year works continue to be paintings, the conceptual framework of these artworks has undergone a radical transformation in comparison to the preceding two years. Prior to this year, my paintings were more realistic depictions of reality; however, I have begun to incorporate some of my own thoughts into them. One could say that "content" has begun to appear in my works.

Project I: Dear Theo

The series of works is called Dear Theo, and it is based on a book. The book includes an assortment of letters that Van Gogh, the artist, sent to his brother Theo during the course of his career. Artists are often perceived as passionate and emotional, and Van Gogh is particularly disliked because of his previous suicide attempt and unfounded rumours about his soul. But after reading these letters, I recognised that he was not insane as many believed, but rather highly intelligent and literate. He would frequently share with his brother the beginnings of his drafts, and although while his works have an ethereal, dreamlike quality, his language makes it obvious that his thoughts and style are quite nuanced and well-reasoned.

I came to understand from these letters that Van Gogh was not the genius who was able to create anything on canvas. He went through the same stages that all artists go through: he battled to start a piece, pondered if he had painted it "right," and at the end was worried about what to do next. I selected the three paintings to illustrate this process, which is universal to all artists, after realising, to my astonishment, that this was almost exactly what I was thinking when I created my work.

These three pieces depict, in turn, the following: the uncertainty surrounding the beginning process; the methodical advancement of the creative process following confirmation of the subject and path; and the serenity and assurance following the completion of the finished product.

It's important to note that, despite the fact that the final piece was first rejected throughout my creative process, I also regard it as my first attempt at change. "Interacting with the viewer" was my first audacious endeavour; I left the rest to others after deciding on the overall form of the piece.

Project II: Masks

While the subject matter of the second project is less serious, it is nevertheless based on the previous one's premise and includes some components that are more pertinent to the modern period.

The three pieces are composed of text and images as well, but they have a lot of colour that makes them look abnormal, which is something I learnt from Hirohiko Araki, a manga artist I really enjoy, in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Even the same individual can appear different, and in order to communicate with others and feel less alone, we occasionally need to don a variety of masks in order to become closer to the community we live in.  Sometimes, our masks are often on for so long that we become unable to distinguish between them. This unpretentious collection of pieces satirises this social phenomenon.

                         Project III

This piece represents a new direction for my exploration technique, where I tried giving up on painting entirely, which was my strongest suit. But like the other two initiatives, this one is also founded on my passion for words. I came up with three questions for this project and asked people to write the answers down from all over the world. My initial objective in undertaking this research was to evoke in others this sense of the potency of words. Undoubtedly, the majority of individuals experienced momentarily this energy that is distinctively the capacity of words.

I will select a few of the most intriguing questionnaires from the over 100 that I have received and list them here. I learned a lot from this experience. I've discovered that I enjoy watching how people think and how they read through the written comments of those who are in front of them. In addition, I have received a great deal of advise regarding my work from others, including, of course, experts in other fields or elders.

While gathering this information, I utilised a video camera to capture the majority of the procedure on video. With numerous revisions completed, I edited a video. Despite significant modifications to the entire undertaking, this video remains a continuation of the initial concept that motivated me to create it. It is my sincere desire that all who view my work, as well as those who participate alongside me, will be moved by the strength of the words.

Exhibition

The final exhibition consisted entirely of "Dear Theo," the notebook containing the research findings, and the culminating edited video. Then, with the intention of maintaining the site as orderly and aesthetically pleasing as possible, I selected table and chairs that complemented the ambiance and motif.
